About the researcher

Ashley Nguyen graduated from the University of Washington with a Master of Public Health in June 2020. This survey of birth doulas in Washington state was part of her thesis work. Prior to pursuing her MPH, Ashley worked in journalism at The Washington Post and Philly.com.

After graduating from UW, Ashley combined her thesis work and journalism skills to report on doula policy issues as an O’Brien fellow at Marquette University. Explore the series.

Ashley was also a Peace Corps volunteer in the Kyrgyz Republic. She graduated from Temple University with a Bachelor of Arts in journalism in 2012.
